Nocturnes: Five Stories of Music and Nightfall
by Kazuo Ishiguro
I don't usually care for "music" as a theme in literature. However, I do usually like the work of Kazuo Ishiguro so I took a chance. I haven't come across many (or any?) of Ishiguro's short stories before and I found the characters interestingly different. The short stories are not long enough to pull off one of Ishiguro's devastating unreliable narrators (which is best done as a long con) so instead the author liberally employs characters that have a slightly bent perspective on things and/or a strange deficiency in character. I didn't quite understand what the author was trying to say about these peculiar characters.
In any case, I found these stories perfectly adequate.
