Fruits Basket Collector's Edition, Vol. 1 by Natsuki Takaya
5.0
I am such a sucker for myth / lore in books, and the zodiac in this manga is just perfect!
I used to watch the show when I was young, but I'd never read the manga. I'm so glad to have picked this up. It really just brings me back! There was a Chinese restaurant in my youth that had the zodiac on little paper mats. I loved seeing them and reading about the traits assigned to them. (Obviously, much like the Western zodiac.)
With that said, the personalities and animal personifications are spot on to what I had in mind! I never saw the end of Fruits Basket, so I can't wait to find what happens with Kyoko. I want the best for Tohru and Kyoko. They have both gone through a fair bit in their lives, and I just want them to be happy.
The first two volumes include five* of the zodiac (* with the outcast, it's 6). I cannot wait to meet the others!
