Mrs. Mohr Goes Missing
by Maryla Szymiczkowa
I thought a historical mystery set in Eastern Europe would totally be my jam... sadly, this didn't work for me. It tried to be witty and sounded stilted and it completely failed to get me on the protagonist's side in *any* way. I felt like these two male authors were constantly demonstrating thinly-veiled contempt for all the women in the story, and since most of the characters are women it was pretty awful. The protagonist is a woman who pretty much qualifies as a bored society housewife who seeks to energize her life by solving crimes. This could be delightful in more sympathetic hands but these two men failed to make her interesting. Disappointing.
