This collection of stories that combines elements of fantasy, sci-fi, and horror to create a world of speculative fiction that meditates on what it means to inhabit a female body is unlike anything I have ever read before.
“Eight bites” had me holding back tears thinking about the unique relationship that only happens between a mother, daughter, and food. “The Husband Stitch” with the way it combines the act of storytelling with old wives tales and fables and instructions on how to read the story out loud so that the listeners have a full auditory experience adds so much to the world. “Inventory” a pandemic remembered through partners. “Especially Heinous” epic SVU fan fiction.
I expect to reread this book a lot.
