Across the Green Grass Fields
by Seanan McGuire
Another solid installation of the Wayward Children series, book 6 to be exact. This time we follow Regan, a young girl when she enters the world of Hooflands. It is there she grows up with a herd of unicorn shepherding centaurs before embarking on her hero quest.
The reason I keep reading this series is because each book always manages to take me to a new imaginative place. Across the Green Grass Fields is no different as I was happily swept up in a world of equine beings. I was also super happy to read a book which had an intersex MC who learnt a lesson about being true to your own nature.
It was interesting how the traditional climax of a novel, in this book being the hero quest, was left to the last thirty pages. As a result, this meant that the world building and journey really had a place to shine without the quest dragging out. I really, thoroughly enjoyed this novella and will definitely continue to keep up with the series as they come out.
