While I’ve only read about four books by Nicholas Sparks, The Guardian has to be my absolute favourite. I didn’t expect it to be a great book, but wow! I was taken off guard at how brilliant this story was.

The Guardian is a mix between romance and mystery. These two genres are greatly balanced throughout the book, but as you near the end of the story the mystery is taken up a notch. Which is a good thing, trust me. As the reader, you kept playing the guessing game. Sparks didn’t reveal anything too soon or too late, it was all perfectly timed I would say. While waiting for the mystery to reveal itself, Sparks managed to keep the story interesting and intriguing. To say the least, I never got bored with the story.

The characters within The Guardian were lovely. All of them had different personalities that were well distinguished, and unique. There were moments where a certain character annoyed me, but that is bound to happen and I quickly got over it.

Lastly, the story is told from different perspectives. It added so much depth to the story when the other characters’ views joined in because they had different ideas, and thoughts about the situation at hand. The story, basically, was magnified when other characters hopped in, and made everything clearer or even more complicated!

In conclusion, The Guardian is a great book and I adored it! I loved everything about it, and it was my first five star read of 2021. I definitely recommend it to those who love mystery and romance!
