Abby Jimenez does not miss! It’s the most satisfying feeling when a book you are excited for lives up to all your expectations!
This book follows Briana and Jacob who both work at the same hospital. When their first meeting results in a misunderstanding, it should set their relationship up for the worst but after Jacob writes Briana a letter explaining it all, the two become friends and slowly start to fall for one another.
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I loved this book! When I read the plot, I had a feeling this would become my favourite Abby Jimenez book and sure enough it is. I loved Life’s Too Short and I really enjoyed Part of Your World. Abby Jimenez is easily becoming one of my favourite authors. The way she writes her romances so emotionally and beautifully makes me fall head over heels every time. She’s able to weave serious topics and a sweet romance together so seamlessly that it brings these characters to life.
The romance between Briana and Jacob was the sweetest! I adored every second of it. The development of their relationship was perfect! We got to see it develop and evolve really well. The pacing was very well done. I’m a sucker for friends to lovers and I really enjoyed the focus on the friendship aspect and how we got to see their friendship built upon before anything romantic happened between them. I also loved how well these characters understood each other and listened to the other person’s needs.
I loved seeing the anxiety rep in this book. As someone who struggles with anxiety, I found the representation of Jacob so relatable to me and maybe one of the most relatable representations of anxiety I’ve ever seen. The way Jacob would overthink certain situations was so on point. I love when you read a book with good representation that makes you feel so seen!
A lot of people (such as myself) like to complain about the miscommunication trope but I’m here to argue that there is such a thing as good miscommunication. We all miscommunicate so for it not to be in books would be unrealistic. This is one of those cases it was done well. Any miscommunication doesn’t drag on for so long that you get annoyed but also doesn’t get resolved too quickly. Things I was worried about being dragged out weren’t.
I loved how the characters actions lined up so well with who they are as people. When we got to the third act conflict, it made sense why the characters did what they did and that things weren’t just put there just for the sake of conflict.
Overall I absolutely adored this book. Abby Jimenez has done it once again. I can’t recommend this book enough. At a time where I needed a pick me up to make me happy, this one did a great job at that!
