Some Winter's Evening by Erin Langston

5.0

Some winters eve is a Christmas novella with immaculate old timey cozy snowy vibes.

Gavin is on the “real life book boyfriend” list. A diligent nerdy barrister with glasses who needs someone to muss him up. So many descriptions of him are just aw shucks golly me adorable. The overly combed hair that is really curls and dark blue eyes. Gah.

Emilia truly is strong, and takes a while to accept Gavin’s caretaking nature. He needs to look after people. She has never felt looked after before, so him caring for her makes her feel special. She needs to learn to accept his care.

The story of how these 2 meet and the woven perspectives pace the novella well. Seeing the Travers family (and their dog named Stede Bonnet!!) in their chaotic happiness is very satisfying.

And the research in to actual historical legal elements is fascinating. Educational and entertaining. Gavin as a crusader for women’s rights and taking on their legal battles. The fact the author chooses to highlight the issues of the day of lack of recourse for women in the Regency via historical romance just reinforces the evolution of this genre as feminist.

Other random shout outs on this book that iykyk: peppermint sticks, sleigh rides, spectacles and blue lace.

I feel warm and swoony and thoughtful after this read. Thanks so much to the author @erin_langston_writes for an advance copy in exchange for my review.
