I have loved this part of the series so far. Elizabeth Hunter is so amazing at writing emotions! I can't tell you what the secret is in the book, but just understand its great.
Ava and Malachi are together, trying to work through everything they've gone through. They're tired and burned out and still stepping up. Ava is learning to control her power and Malachi is trying to get his back after his experiences in book 1 & 2. Ava is also learning more about why she is what she is.
There are several more books that continue the story, but focus on other couples that have been introduced. I'm going to stop here for now because the focus will be different, but I fully intend to pick up the series after my TBR is shorter. I might pick up the novella that is book 3.5 though because it is also Ava & Malachi focused.
