Untamed Shore by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

4.0

Like all of Silvia Moreno-Garcia's books, I loved the way she allows this coming-of-age story to unravel with the characters. This story is a mix of local myth and the curiosities of Viridiana as she tries to figure out who around her is telling the truth. Viridiana is a young woman living a bit on the outside of her community when she starts working for a trio of white Americans who come to her town to vacation for the summer. When one dies mysteriously, she's unsure of who she can trust. The story has many twists and turns that keep you wondering who these people are and will Viridiana be able to free herself of them. I loved the way Moreno-Garcia's Viridiana grows up in the story, first as a trusting wondering girl to a determined and clear-eyed young woman who saves herself.
