Below Stairs by Margaret Powell

This book wasn't bad and was a quick enough read, but wasn't terribly engaging, either? The author mostly just talks about the different houses she worked at and the working conditions, but she doesn't flesh out the people she worked with terribly much. It's a pretty dry retelling, with not much different covered from employer to employer. I'm not sure you learn more about servant life after 75 pages as you do 150 or 200. I'd have appreciated learning more about the other individuals in the household in particular--what were their lives like?

In the end, not a bad read, but not a great one either. Easy and quick enough.
