to address the elephant in the room with this book: it is very easy to say that certain aspects aged badly. they really werent in good taste to begin with, but its only going to get worse the older this book gets lol. it reminds me a lot of the reveal in Sleepaway Camp, its done simply for shock and makes you wish it had just been cut or done differently. its really the only main caveat i have with this book
cause honestly, this was a solidly good thriller. it took me an absurdly long time to read but it wasnt because of the book itself. i wouldnt call this scary by any means, its a slow burn thrill that in spite of its tight time frame takes its time to ramp up to anything. i enjoyed it but i can easily see where it could lose people. i really enjoyed the ending comparisons to small pox and the breakdown of the video itself, and wish there could have been more connecting the dots moments like that, but what can u do lol
im not sure if i will continue with the rest of the series, i liked this one decently enough but it sets up for a sequel so clearly that its painful. without reading any of the others i almost want to say it wouldve been better off as a standalone
