This book is confusing for me to try to rate. I almost DNF’d in the beginning because I didn’t love the writing style. It felt pretty forced and the dialogue was very stilted and awkward. But the storyline eventually became intriguing enough that I kept going. However, most of the “twists” were very obvious, which made it all the more infuriating that Scarlett acted like her world was falling apart every time she found out a new piece of information. Truthfully, I just found her to be a very annoying, frustrating main character who overreacted to all the info Sorin kept from her. Like I get it, it sucks he didn’t tell you, but like you also actively avoided the conversation so what was he supposed to do?? And then you have to throw it in his face that he “broke” you??? I just hated it and it just happened too many times throughout the book. And the “big reveal” at the end of the book was perhaps the most guessable of all of them, which again, made her reaction especially annoying and the ending kind of anticlimactic. With that being said, it was intriguing enough that I do want to keep going with the series. It feels like a mix of Throne of Glass and From Blood and Ash.
