Portrait of a Thief by Grace D. Li

5.0

I loved this book so, so, so much. I was going to try to write a coherent review for it but it's been a while now since I finished and I'm too burned out so have a weird list instead.

- Daniel and Irene and Will had such a great friendship!!!
- Irene and Alex's bickering? *chef's kiss*
- Lily, that's all. Loved her sm.
-
Spoiler that other team of thieves was sexy idk how else to explain them

- Was a little disappointed about the heists not being the main focus of the story, but since someone had told me before I started that it was going to be about diaspora and a coming of age sort of thing I still loved it.
- The chapters were written more like short fiction that switched POVs and it was such a fun way to tell a story
- The prose was fucking PRETTY
- It did get a little repetitive sometimes with certain phrases, but it wasn't that noticeable to me and tbh I think it's a really solid debut
- Even if it's not what I thought it was gonna be back when it was announced IDC I'm still giving it 5 stars
