The Familiars
by Stacey Halls
3.5 stars -
Thoughts:
1. I love an author’s note that gives details about what is historical and what is fictional. Halls’ note was short yet effective in making me like this book just a bit more. I wonder what the real-life versions of Richard, Alice, and Fleetwood would think about the fictional stories of themselves being written 400 years after they lived.
2. I regret listening to this book as an audiobook instead of reading the print version. Sometimes I felt like it was difficult to follow the peripheral characters, and the sudden shifts from slower plot moments to sudden action were difficult to catch in audio form. I wouldn’t mind going back and reading this book in print form.
