This is a book I read with my "problematic book club", and we had a lot of thoughts regarding the story, the characters, and overall themes.  We felt as if the British serial killer (I'm awful with names) felt extremely out of place in this narrative, and it took way too long for him to get involved; it would have been more believable if he showed up quickly, or even halfway through, but he showed up very close to the end, and his chapters were spent.....just kind of being full of himself.

The writing was gorgeously illustrative, disgustingly so at points, but the biggest disappointment is that the penultimate scene
where the killers come together and kill Tran was so SHORT.  It felt like such an important scene, but it was only a few paragraphs long.  Not a lot of time or attention was given to it.

Additionally, one of our club members informed us that this book was heavily inspired by a victim of Jeffrey Dahmer,  Konerak Sinthasomphone, and was published only four years after his death, which seems INCREDIBLY tasteless.  We all had a hard time divorcing our opinions on the book from this fact after the fact.
