I really wanted to like this book a lot more than I actually did. The premise is interesting - cop haunted by the terribly heinous serial killer who tortured him and then called 911 to save him, putting herself in jail - but the actual book was less than stellar. There is the cop/killer backstory, and then there is the "current day" story about a different serial killer that said cop is currently trying to capture. The bulk of the novel, unfortunately, follows the 2nd, far less interesting story. This is the first novel of an ongoing series, and if I get around to it I'll read the next one, but it's not at the top of my list.
