The BFG by Roald Dahl

2.0

Ive lately been revisiting books from my past in audiobook format. That being said I remember loving this book in 5th grade (1996-ish). the BFG was endearing, Sophie was cute and the overall dialogue was funny. Now as a 30 some year old I was hoping to be as enamored with this story as I once was.

I have to say I found this book to be quite problematic this time around. It is quite full of culturaly insensitive stereotypes, grammar that is almost unbearable. And disturbing themes of cannibalism and murder to name a few. I really don't know if I would recommend this book for small children. definitely not any younger than 5th grade.

*A note on the Audio-book narrated by David Walliams. there are small subtle sound effects such as tinkling glasses and phone rings etc. reminiscent of old radio plays I found them to be fun and non distracting a great way to enhance the listening experience. Williams did a great job reading and providing a voice to each character. his voice is smooth and enjoyable and he never stumbles on any of the words.
