The Steel Kiss
by Jeffery Deaver
Whew! That was even more of a ride than I was expecting. Mr. Deaver has a way of keeping you on your toes. I dive into the book, knowing that this is the case, watching for his tricks, and still he catches me off guard. He has you looking in one direction, then pivots you around; just when you get used to that, he pivots you back in the direction you were looking in the first place. It's a wild ride and I LOVED it.
I could name a few minor things about the book that seemed different and a bit disconcerting, but, really, they don't matter. I was grinning during a lot of the book and it takes a lot to get a reaction out of me. Did I mention that I loved it?
I do, however, have to ask one question... Am I the only one who, upon setting the book down, gets startled EVERY time by the face staring intently at me from the back cover? I truly think he does this on purpose.
