I’ve been meaning to get to this one for a WHILE.

This was very reminiscent of Daisy Jones but felt more significant because it dealt with topics of race and feminism and addiction without losing the intrigue of the music industry. This is not necessarily a critique of the book itself and is more due to my expectations going into it, but I was expecting a bit more drama regarding the allegation from the blurb and because of that I was left wanting. I was shocked at the reveal, but I felt like we pivoted away from Opal’s story afterwards and the narrative focused more on Sunny instead. I liked Sunny’s character, but I was much more invested in Opal and Virgil and felt like we could have learned so much more about their storylines.

Overall this was a very good book though, especially for a debut.
