If there's one thing that sticks out about this series, it's the absolutely gorgeous art that blends the fantastic and vivid so well to make you feel like you've fallen right into the novel.

What's lacking... Well, what the art sometimes suggests. Every woman in it looks the same. Same cute button nose, elaborately long lashes, big boobs, and scary-skinny waistline. In the beginning, I actually thought the girl from chapter 2 was Lady Mechanika in a flashback of her origin story.

When speaking with Joe Benitez, the creator, I asked him about his protagonist's appearance. He replied that he feels that tough women don't need to be "butch." That a woman can be both badass and sexy. While I agree with his statement, I believe that sexiness comes in all shapes and sizes. I for one prefer to see flat-chested or more shapely women as my protagonists. This is why I seek more unconventional heroes, such as those found in Saga or Bitch Planet.

Regardless of the lack of diversity, I think the series has great potential. The art is already stellar and the story (despite its frequent info dumps and quick wack-bam-pow fight scenes) features plenty of female characters whose stories could really be explored in depth.
