Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World by Naomi Klein

5.0

I also confused Naomi Kline with Naomi Wolf, I certainly won't after this book. An amazing look at the Right side of politics and how someone that was on the left can fall down into that hole. She discusses Feminism, Autism, pseudo science, and Israel/Palestine. It was all really incredible. She talks about the dissociative effect of having people confuse the two of them and the idea of ‘brand integrity’. I think that the discussion around Israel and Palestine was very timely, she talks about how Zionists use the holocaust as a retraumatizing event to justify their actions towards Palestinians and those that speak out about this issue, but there isn't really a working through of that collective trauma. I had also heard about Wolf’s disastrous radio interview and then nothing else, so to see her fall into the far right side of politics, especially with covid was startling. It is interesting to see how someone will compromise on their beliefs over and over again because she has felt blacklisted by the other side of the aisle.
