Blackwater: The Complete Caskey Family Saga
by Michael McDowell
How am I supposed to go on with my live when I've just finished this serie ?? It's a real interrogation I have ! I read the whole collection all together so it really felt that the Caskey's adventure were the common thread of my life for some time.
I was absolutely HOOKED right in the first pages. The mysterious atmosphere was sooooo well done and I always wanted to know more and more about what was going on. After reading the prologue, I even paused reading because I was afraid the main body would not hold up to the standard of that beginning. Well let me tell you that I wasn't disapointed !
This serie was so good ! It was amazed by the evolution of characters and how they became entirely different persons in front of my own eyes, yet everything made sense. The author absolutely manipulated me and changed my mind about characters as he sees fit. Amazing.
The only thing regarding aging characters is that sometimes I found the children discourses and ideas were not really on point regarding their young age, but hey.
I absolutely adored the first three books, I had a hard time going through the fourth, and then the last ones were good but not as good as the first ones. I prefered the time when there was more conflict inside the family (let's be honest, we're talking about the hatred between Mary-Love and Elinor) as well as when they were not as rich as in the end.
But overall, I really read all the books as the whole, and as a whole, I loved this serie !
