I think anyone who has mental health issues can relate this novel. This isn’t for the faint hearted. It’s pretty heavy-hitting novel but also so very human. Many believe that this novel is semi-autobiographical novel based on Osaka Dazai’s life who killed himself not to long after this novel was published. Maybe in some way it was a suicide note to the world. Very sad. But a novel I really appreciated.
