Strengthsfinder 2.0
by Tom Rath
Disclaimer: Read the intro, skimmed my sections.
Got this book from my mom for Christmas. She was very excited about it.
Complaint 1: The book feels like a scam. The entire book is an advertisement for on online quiz that requires purchasing of a unique book copy to take.
Complaint 2: The book feels like astrology. On the plus side, the quiz picked out appropriate sounding categories. On the other hand, this wasn't too hard. I'm a grad student in computer science; hearing that my strengths focus around learning and the future isn't terribly surprising. But the chapters associated with each strength just feels like they're supposed to make you feel good, and don't have much concrete advice.
Complaint 3: Despite all the talk of how many "profiles" they've "analyzed", this just doesn't seem to be scientific at all. The quiz was kind of hilarious, though, with likert scales that made no sense ("I feel good about life" vs "I am a competent person").
Oy. Sorry mom!
