While I can see why others may have enjoyed this book, for me the main character Taita was so unrealistic that I disliked him immensely throughout. He knows EVERYTHING, has invented EVERYTHING, is the leading authority on EVERYTHING -- him, an Egyptian slave in his mid-30s?! Nah, mate, bugger off, I'm not here for it.
