I haven't read this book in at least 10 or 15 years. Maybe more. There's a line from one of the characters about how it feels wrong to feel sympathy for the bad guys. That was my main issue. What the main antagonist did was absolutely abhorrent and I do not want to feel sorry for him. I really wish I didn't. But that's a sign of a good book, when the author can take a villain and make you see things, even just a little, from their point of view. Now I have to go pick out something light and fluffy to read.
