So Late in the Day is the antithesis of Small Things Like These. You’ll be begging for our hero, Bill Furlong, and all of his empathy and love for women. In STLT a man is seemingly the only character a woman in need can trust. In SLITD men are to be feared. Misogynistic at their best, violent psychopaths at their worst.
Claire Keegan is a master of building tension and this book left me feeling incredibly unsettled.
