Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo

4.0

For being nearly 500 pages, this book reads pretty fast and was way more captivating than Ninth House. I especially enjoyed the ideas around demons and hell; the thought of afterlife not having morality ties to it, but as heaven and hell as realms for demons to exist to feed on souls and the souls' different emotions associated with them (joy, pain, sadness, etc.) was so intriguing and unique. I loved the line "Our bodies are food for worms. Why should our souls not be made meals too?" What a concept!!

SpoilerMy biggest qualms were the number of trips to Hell they made. It felt never-ending. AND, they still have to go back in the third book because the door to Hell was left propped open. And then, just like the first book, Alex spent 400 pages trying to find Darlington...I honestly thought Alex wasn't going to bring Darlington back because of how soon the ending was approaching and there still wasn't any closure.

Overall, definitely was entertained by this read and will read the third book if I can remember what happens by the time it comes out!
