i really liked the water cure so i was very excited to read mackintosh's second book - unfortunately, this one felt a bit limp to me. i don't think mackintosh did anything particularly revolutionary with what is quite a basic Dystopian Gender plot and the narrative overall felt a bit thin. however, her prose is taut and powerful, and there were flashes of some really cool unsettling character stuff going on which kept me interested, even if overall i would say the book doesn't live up to its best promises.
