The Secret Adversary by Agatha Christie
4.0

Why have I not read this story earlier? I love Agatha Chrisie and unlike her other novels this one reads more like a thriller.
kidnapping, murder, multipe identities, espionage, double crossings, blackmail, and government take overs = excellent reading

I caught on to the identy of the mastermind before the finaly revelations, which thankfully did not happen in a Marple, company sitting around for tea style. My modern sensibilities of not trusting people at face value might have helped me along. Today we could have just googled a person's name and been able to verify their identity. This story would not have worked in todays world with smart phones being able to snap a picture and send it instanly for a eyewitness to verify.

It was a good story.

Synopsis:
Tommy and Tuppence are unemployed after the great war. the put their last shillings together to make an advertisment for hire. An unusal name overheard in convesation propells them into a plot that could toppel the English government. Far fetched, but it really is just the catalyst to get it the ball rolling in this story.

A group of foreign nationals who want to see all capitalist governments fall have a coup planned. A secret treaty is lost that could destroy the english government and both parties are on the hunt while a mastermind whose identy is unknow to all but a select few as Mr. Brown is always a step ahead.
