ANOTHER WINNER FROM KELLEY ARMSTRONG!
although i still prefer the Darkest Powers trilogy, this was a fantastic start to what i expect to be a great trilogy.
the plot was awesome. it kept you guessing, and on the edge of your seat. the small town was greatly portrayed, and there were connections from DP that one will notice (i.e. Samuel Lyle, Project Genesis, etc). the identities and secrets of the characters were always being hinted at, and it left you with tons of questions that will probably be continued in the next book.. "A" for plot :)
the characters were pretty different than DP's. firstly, maya is quite different from chloe. she's much more badass and hardheaded (what chloe developed into at the end of the Reckoning is half of what maya is in the Gathering). she was flawed and knew it, and that's what i loved about her. rafe is so interesting and mysterious. the more you find out about him, the more you love him. though, i prefer daniel for the romantic interest for maya. he's her best friend and is protective, strong, and very honorable for a 16 year old guy. sam was a great mystery, and i hope to know more about her in the next one. nicole, hayley, corey, and brandon(?) were great minors, as well. they get an A+
the romance was pretty good. like i said, i prefer daniel, but rafe was a great leading man. it was handled very well and was very realistic for the circumstances. it gets a B+
overall, A+ book! so glad that the second book is already out so i can go read it now! pick it up if you loved DP, and do so even if you didnt! Kelley Armstrong remains the queen!
