Empire High Elite by Ivy Smoak

5.0

Synopsis:
Brooklyn has a new surname. And a new house. There is also a new guy in the story. She knows she will never be able to fit in her father's world, but her father does surprise her sometimes.

And then there's Matt, Felix, and the new guy. Having lost her mother and uncle a few months apart, Brooklyn's heart is all over the place. Will she be able to finally find her place in the world?

Review:
The story starts exactly from where Empire High Untouchables ended. Brooklyn continues the narration in her first-person perspective, and from being a 'no one Sanders' to being 'the Pruitt' is very hard for her to digest. Especially when senior Pruitt is behaving demonically towards her. Or isn't he?

The declaration right at the very beginning is something I didn't expect after reading the blurb. But the secrets are to continue. Otherwise, someone might get hurt.

I wasn't aware that James Hunter already had his own series a few years from the events of this book. And reading Isabella's name in the blurb of one of the books depressed me. Is there any hope for Matthew and Brooklyn then?

But, [a:Ivy Smoak|13490770|Ivy Smoak|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1571161081p2/13490770.jpg] writes in a way which sucks you in. And you want to know, keep knowing, what happens next!

Mr Pruitt's line of work, which is what exactly isn't revealed, might be dangerous for Brooklyn. And hence a new character by way of her bodyguard is in. Oh, Miller. What wouldn't I do to know your first name!

The book is full of drama and high school shenanigans and young love. And when there's this disclosure, what everyone feared would be toxic instead turned into such a sweet scene! But, ahem, the drama is not far behind, never far behind. And what high flying drama there is, right when everything seems to be finally getting settled, or at least it seems to be getting somewhere...

In the end, more than irritation at her poor choices, I felt really bad for Brooklyn. Not being able to trust people close to her must hurt. Not having a single person on your side, how that must feel like!

But then the best thing happened, and I don't know about Brooklyn but it got me out of my funk. I am impressed with Smoak, she just whips you with one emotion after another.

But what was that ending!?! What? What Brooklyn always feared, about something really bad happening, did come true. I need Book Three right now. I can't bear to wait for [b:Empire High Betrayal|51841529|Empire High Betrayal (Empire High, #3)|Ivy Smoak|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1596652715l/51841529._SX50_.jpg|76331283] till January 2021! In the end, all I want to say is how creepy the Pruitts are and how cute drunk Matt is. And I always will be #TeamMatt. No doubt about that.

P.S. Need to read the Hunted Series now. I wonder if Brooklyn has been mentioned in that series because I want her and Matt to have a future.

Thank you to InkSlinger PR for an e-ARC of the book.

My review of the books in the Empire High Series is as follows:
