The Angry Tide by Winston Graham

5.0

"All we know is this moment, and this moment, Ross, we are alive! We are. We are. The past is over, gone. What is to come doesn’t exist yet. That’s tomorrow! It’s only now that can ever be, at any one moment. And at this moment, now, we are alive – and together. We can’t ask more. There isn’t any more to ask."

You know it's a Poldark book when the ending makes you cry.

Though it doesn't quite beat Warleggan for me, The Angry Tide is definitely one of my favourite Poldark books. There's just so much that happens.
Ross going to London. Ross and Demelza having heartfelt conversations which tore my heart out. Baby Sarah 💔 Sam and Emma 💔 That pig Ossie finally getting the comeuppance he deserves. London!!! Monk Adderley 😤 A duel??? Elizabeth dying???
It's a wild ride to say the least. And as it's the last book before the time jump that happens in The Stranger from the Sea, it lends a certain pathos to the events of the book; it ends with the closing of the 18th century, the quite literal end of an era.

Winston Graham never fails to astound me with his ability to weave such complex, rich stories and explore the lives of characters whom I know as well as myself by now. That is what keeps drawing me back to this series, and what has captivated readers and viewers alike for decades: the story and the characters. No matter how many years have passed since these books were first published, they remain as engaging and as full of life as ever. That is a testament to how well they are written, and to why it has become one of my favourite book series of all time.
