A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
1.0

I’m wouldn’t describe myself as a super cultured reader; I give 4 to 5 stars to most of what I read because books easily entertain me and I’m lenient with a lot of literature I read. But I do not at all recommend this book.
To be honest I only read the first 40% of the book, but I literally could not continue reading it. The helpless heroine with an extraordinary ability she denies having who immediately falls in love with an old-as-fuck guy with a haunted past…. so over played (which isn’t always bad, but there is nothing in this book that makes this trope it’s own or refreshed).
The beginning was promising, as I’ve seen other people say. The main female character seemed competent, which is unfortunately hard to find in a lot of these fantasy books. This book is not an exception.
The plot is also dragged on by pages and pages of everyday life being described to the reader and it’s just so unnecessary. It seems as if the author had a word limit and wrote 90% of the book with filler words.
Don’t waste £9 on this book like I did.
