On Merit Alone
by Adorabol Huckleby-Ordaz
“On Merit Alone” is a brilliant sports romance about love, loss, and discovery of one self. Merit was a star in the WNBA whose life dealt her a bad hand. Ira was a charming, charismatic, legend in the making searching for “more.” Two people whose ships passed through the night until they found each other.
From basketball practice to red carpets, Merit tried to push Ira away but once he fell for her, all bets were off. Ira was persistent and patient with Merit and eventually her guard fell one shot at a time.
It was in each other that Merit discovered who she was and how much more life could offer if she would just give it a chance. It was also there that Ira found what he was searching for in the process of loving Merit past her heartache and pain.
“On Merit Alone” was a wonderful reflection of the vulnerability and strength of love. It took us on a journey from beginning to end of how falling is complex but not impossible when someone is there to catch you.
