Citrus County by John Brandon

4.0

Like a lot of people, I enjoyed Daniel Handler's review so much that I decided to check this book out, despite not typically enjoying a lot of McSweeny's books. Citrus County is surprisingly funny, especially for a how disturbing Toby's crime is. The teen romance alongside the crime actually worked for me, yet another surprise. I found Mr. Hibma's sections the most tedious, which I think is probably intentional, but I just didn't enjoy the long sports sections mixed in with potential murder plots. Ultimate, I feel like the book is 3.5 stars for me because of the ending. I don't believe Shelby would forgive Toby that easily, or be able to let him go unpunished. Although, perhaps being Mr. Hibma's ward is punishment enough.
