The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
4.5
challenging dark emotional informative mysterious sad tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I already know this will be the worst of the series. Even tho it was so great. It is mostly a build up to the characters, backstory.

I understand why she did what she did. Giving into anger was expected. I am excited to see if she is able to control it.
I find it funny for the book to start off what was at the time dramatic for it only to get SO MUCH WORSE. Like oh she is pining herself in order to be great at her academy, her teachers are harsh, she could die practicing. For the book to just put God's into the mix as well.
The ending was fun. I am excited to continue. But since it was so dark I think I will wait for a hit with the series

Highly recommend, but so many TWs it is a very grafic book.
