The Genesis of Gender: A Christian Theory by Abigail Favale

challenging informative reflective medium-paced

5.0

Can't say enough good things about this book. Favale is thoughtful and writes with razor-sharp intelligence and compassion. The book is somewhat academic - I felt like it was the perfect level for me but I am familiar with philosophy and have an interest in feminism. The first few chapters go through the postmodern worldview and how it came to be. The later chapters talk about the paradoxes of gender identity, how transgenderism fits into this paradigm, and transgender people's stories of transition and detransition. The book incorporates Catholic Theology of the Body and celebrates the body as good, not something to be shamed or thrown away. I read a library copy but I wish I could have underlined on every page.
