Butcher & Blackbird is the first book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy.  The longest list of content warnings I have ever seen made me question my sanity for wanting to still read this book, especially since "accidental cannibalism" had me intrigued.  Brynne Weaver did a good job at making that lighter, easier to get through, and with humor though.

Rowan Kane and Sloane Sutherland are serial killers that hunt other serial killers.  Their banter is dark but hilarious.  I never thought I would laugh so much while reading about two serial killers and their competition.  Rowan knows exactly how to get to Sloane, but she gives it right back to him.  If this were a "normal" relationship, there would be so many red flags, but they fit perfectly.  It is the spark of light in their dark world.

There is a lot of gore, so this book isn't for the fainthearted.  The content warnings on the author's website and at the beginning of the book looks overwhelming, but I think a lot of it was done in a way that made it easier to read.

Overall, Butcher & Blackbird is a deliciously dark rom-com and I can't wait to read the second book about Rowan's brother, Lachlan.
