Genre: Adult Omegaverse Romance
Spice: 3.5/5🌶️
*spice ratings are relative to similar books in the same genre*
The Catalog: F/M omegaverse, bonded dragon rider alpha, intricate world building, FMC joins MMC’s harem (no cheating), magical amnesia, war torn world, touch her and die, possessive MMC, fated mates, secrets & political machinations
TWs/CWs: voluntary & involuntary sexual servitude, violence (in general and against the FMC by the MMC), torture, dub-con (teetering on non-con), death of a family member
Synopsis: When I’mya wakes up in the heart of a mountain, she has no recollection of who she is or how she got there. The woman in charge insists that I’mya applied to be part of the dragon lord’s harem, but I’mya is certain she’d never do that, so she runs…right into the firey maw of the lord’s bonded dragon. Nyro, the dragon-bonded alpha, cares little for anything other than his own desires until the strange omega enters his lair. There’s something different about her, something that calls to him, makes him obsessed.
Thoughts:
I had no idea where this was going when I picked it up, basically going in blind, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. This had a much more developed world building and magic system than I was expecting, although you learn about it slowly and a little disjointedly—because the FMC doesn’t remember anything.
The cultural aspects surrounding the bonded dragon-rider Dragorai was very interesting! I am looking forward to learning more about them in the subsequent books. I think there’s a lot of potential there!
The romance was insta-lust, like a lot of omegaverse, but I didn’t mind it tbh. What was a little hard to read was the overt violence enacted against the FMC by the MMC. I can’t say that I love the normalization of men enacting violence against women and enjoying it. I think this story didn’t need that.
I will say that once he realized that he was truly hurting her, he was more careful, however. He also becomes softer over time as his feeling deepen.
I must also mention that the first few times they are intimate, there is a strong dub-con (leaning non-con) dynamic (both because she is involuntary part of his harem, and because he takes what he wants).
Despite the darker themes of this book, I did really enjoy it, and even came to like their relationship. Just please be aware of these darker themes.
