The Trial by Franz Kafka
5.0

Every time K speaks to a new character about the inner mechanisms of this world's judicial system, the reader gets another level of absurdity added.

Yet... if you've been paying any attention to modern judicial systems (Supreme Court justices, immigration law, etc.), each level also seems to add a sense of realism and poignancy.

Incredible story. Reminds me of A Modest Proposal. Now... where'd I put those orphans?
