Dawn by Octavia E. Butler

Ok, this one wasn't for me.
I am in the minority of people who disliked this very famous book - but honestly, I failed to see why this book has garnered such praise. For a feminist science fiction book, it didn't have much of the former, and the latter was barely intriguing.
I really did not like Lilith. Although, to be fair, we were given enough description about her to make up our minds about her. The rest 40 odd humans just seemed barbaric, selfish dicks. Granted, humanity doesn't really present contrary evidence that often, still, it would have been nice if Butler had focused more on the rest of the human populace awakened. I think I was more interested in Jdahya and Nikanj.
The pacing was abrupt and painful - with so much conversation in the first half, and too much action in the second. And again, in a feminist book, why do men have to be so one-dimensional? I went in with a lot of expectations, and came out of the book with difficulty and well, nothing else.
I will not be continuing this series.
