Storm Front by Jim Butcher

4.0

What a fun introduction to the Dresden Files series. I had heard about this series a long time ago but for some reason I thought it was YA/kids' series, mainly because the main character's name is HARRY Dresden, and for some reason I just thought "oh its a Harry Potter type thing", which makes no sense but my brain works in mysterious ways.

Anyway, I really enjoyed how subtle the world building is in this. I generally do not like urban fantasy, but this had me gripped from the very beginning. I was reading while listening to random noir jazz music so I was very much immersed in Jim Butcher's magical Chicago. Speaking of noir, I didn't realize how unapologetically noir this book was going to be, I really liked that. It used the tropes perfectly without being trite, while also weaving your classic magical situations in perfectly.

For such a short book it packed quite a punch, I will definitely check out the rest of the series, even if this works as a standalone.
