The Iron Knight
by Julie Kagawa
When I started reading this I just thought it would be a continuation of the same standard series. So I didn't figure out what was going on until about half way through the book. Up until now the series has all been from Meghan's point of view - this was a swift departure of that. Not only was it from Ash's point of view, but we barely got to know about Meghan at all until the end. Which was a little frustrating. I wanted to know how she was doing - but apparently we had to wait to the end to find out.
In another respect - this flip was also kind of good. I don't think we ever got to be in Ash's head before - so this was a nice look at the other side. What he's thinking and what he's actually feeling can be known instead of just supposed. Grim is still my favourite character though - amuses me to no end.
The plot was good as well. Ash went through hell for Meghan and she better damn well appreciate it. There was a lot happening in this book and that huge revelation that's hinted at in the synopsis above? Completely obvious it was going to happen. I was not surprised at all to see that. But! It was good. Quick moving and thoroughly enjoyable.
