Knot So Lucky by Trilina Pucci
1.0
I feel so bad writing negative reviews! But this one has to be done....
Let me preface this by saying that this is a very spicy book, and I LOVE spicy books. I am certainly not a prude when it comes to books. Dare I say this book is....too raunchy? Never, have I ever encountered such a torturous cringe fest of trashiness. Somehow this book manages to be overtly sexual, without actually being sexy (to me, at least). So the entire book is just constant banging, and it's not even hot.
Within the first 10 minutes of reading, I was extremely annoyed by the characters. These people talk and act like they are on MTV's Jersey Shore. The jokes are incredibly cringy, and there are a lot of them. Seriously, how old are these people? I know that they are supposed to be adults, but they act like degenerates at a frat party. Actually, I'm pretty sure people didn't act THIS bad in college. Maybe I didn't go to enough parties?
I don't even have enough to say about these characters, because we barely learn anything about them. Crew is a football player who is obsessed with sex and he likes to share women with his two friends. Eleanor is an esthetician visiting Las Vegas, has a sister and a best friend who act equally trashy, and mentions her pussy LITERALLY 5 times on every page. She is constantly referring to it as a separate entity. Also, she compared Crew's penis to Renesmee from Twilight.
Both Eleanor and Crew have no interest in romance or relationships. This is a romance book, so obviously we know what happens....they end up falling in love...wow! Big shocker! The problem is that their relationship is purely sexual for basically the entire book. All of a sudden they are in love, but there is no development at all. It doesn't feel as though they have any connection outside of constant sex.
The characters don't actually start having sex on page until about half-way through. Once it started, I actually missed the first half of the book....lol. Some of the writing was fine, but overall, it is extremely cringey. Some of the descriptions were just..........no.
Overall...
Where's the plot?
Where's the character development?
Where's the actual romance?
Where are the personalities and character traits? (aside from the ones I mentioned above).
Knot So Lucky would have worked better as a spicy little novella. I think this book isn't trying to have a plot, and the focus is on spice. This is fine, but hundreds of pages of cringey sex with no plot isn't as enjoyable as a full-length novel.
I listened to the audiobook, which features a full cast. The full cast narration enhanced the experience, but it couldn't save the book for me.
