Stunning. Each sentence seems perfectly crafted. It took a little while to get into it, but that was probably to understand the world. I also think I appreciate how the characters developed over the course of the book, more than I like the characters who opened the book originally.
I especially appreciated the ending. I like how there wasn’t a definitive ending, but hope. I also like the unfinished nature of the sheriff’s story. Maybe he died; maybe he got reelected. But by not finishing his story, it’s like the narrative is taken away from him and focused on those who matter more.
