Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf

3.0

My second attempt to stay present with a Woolf. Unsuccessful. A writer like no other, she is. But I find it incredibly hard to keep track of all the tiny details that are happening on different sensorial levels. A colour of the rose here, the smell of an unimportant person over there. It is simply too much for me. However, when Woolf drops a life lesson, it is always a very important one. In contract with the lengthy descriptions, her short messages stick. Moreover, her way of gluing different plots together into a rich narrative is cleverly executed. A classic to try out, but not for everybody to enjoy. In my case it were the sentences here and there that I considered so beautifully written that it was worth the struggle.
