The Etched City by K.J. Bishop
5.0
What a book.
Outstanding atmosphere in the hands of an author with incredible prose.
Ashamoil, the city, starts off as a normal place, then various instances of the Weird begin appearing, but it's up to the reader to try to understand what exactly these weird instances might mean.
There's many occasions where you can feel characters leaving things unsaid, which lets us, the readers, fill in the potential blanks. This is something I truly appreciate when an author has the courage to do.
Most of the time we get everything over-explained to us in books, but it's so fun and engaging to play a part in filling in the blanks, jumping to conclusions or educated guesses regarding a character's feelings or actions.
Gwynn, what a character btw.
