allaboutfrodo 's review for:
The End of Eternity
by Isaac Asimov
Huh. What just happened?
This gem of a novel is a little dated, but I always find it interesting to see how science fiction writers imagined the future, especially writers who were also scientists. (The main character keeps printed volumes rather than commiting them to "microfilm;" apparently Asimov didn't imagine digital files.) It also always amuses me to read about Computers who are humans, not machines.
My biggest issue with this book was modified by the big plot twist I won't reveal. The End of Eternity despite its age is still very very readable and engaging. Someone needs to make a movie.
Note: my favorite review that I read about this book comes from Glenn McDonald at NPR. It contains this wonderful line: "In the course of his work, Harlan falls in love with the fetching Noÿs Lambent, a beautiful aristocrat with her umlauts in all right places (writing about women was never Asimov's strong suit). " Ha!
